World War II in ChinaThis East Asian nation was invaded and occupied by the Japanese. As an ally, China played a relatively small role in the war, since, in part, the Nationalist government led by Chaing Kai-Shek was engrossed the revolt of China's communists led by Mao Tse-Tung. The Chinese people suffered greatly under Japanese occupation. By the end of the war, China would lose over 11 million men and women -- most of them civilians.
