World War II in PolandOn March 31, 1939 Britain declared that it would support this Eastern European nation against the likely German invasion. But in August, Germany and the USSR signed a secret non-agression pact dividing up Poland. When Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 it marked the beginning of World War II. On September 17, 1939 the Soviets invaded eastern Poland.
