Dachau
- U.S. troops liberated the Dachau concentration camp in April 1945 and discovered evidence of gruesome medical experiments.
Deception
- The code name for Iwo Jima Operation.

- A small Western European nation that surrendered to Germany on April 9, 1940.

- Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherds, and other dogs were used in World War II to search out the enemy hiding in the bush, detect mines and booby traps, alert troops in foxholes at night to approaching enemy, and to carry messages, ammunition and medical supplies. - Lieutenant Colonel James H. Doolittle led a dramatic bombing raid on Japan in April 1942. The raid was of little strategic value but it was a valuable morale booster for the U.S., and a morale buster for Japan.

Dresden
- The German city of Dresden was firebombed on February 13 and 14, 1945 by the Allies killing at least 135,000 people.
